Automotive Suppliers – Today and Tomorrow

For automotive suppliers, the advantage of having large purchase quantities for a model throughout several years is one side of the coin. There is no other industry in which suppliers are integrated into their customers’ manufacturing processes as much or as much in real-time as in the automotive industry. Coordinating business processes and modifying them in line with dynamic changes is a constant challenge that every automotive supplier's management and employees have to overcome.

Cost breakdown structures

Of course you can submit quotations for new vehicle parts. In fact, customers want you to. For this purpose, they even provide ready-made spreadsheets so that they are also able to pinpoint where your internal cost drivers are. Maybe it’s still possible to shave off a couple of cents from the Price.

Framework agreements – delivery commitments – approval of input material purchases

The contract has been awarded. The terms and conditions have been agreed upon according to an agreed framework, and you have received the go-ahead for the purchase of input materials for a certain number of units. You have guaranteed your customer that you will be able to deliver a defined quantity within a specified period.

Tools – tool management

Now you can start to design and manufacture or procure the necessary tools. Making sure that you provide new tools in a timely manner is, of course, one of your responsibilities. To ensure that you meet this responsibility, you make absolutely sure to document the tools’ exact service lives as part of your tool management program.

EDI – VDA – ODETTE – and everything else in the industry

You receive the latest delivery schedules via EDI on a regular basis (daily or even hourly) so that you only deliver what the customer really needs on short notice. It goes without saying that you can produce as much as you want, but you should remember to use only materials from the suppliers approved by your customers, documented with company certificates and traceable batches.

Of course your customers trust your quality, but for purposes of assurance, they want to receive QA test values and process data for every single production batch.

Load carriers (SLCs) – goods tags

Manufactured parts have to be delivered in specially designated load carriers or containers. A working container and/or load carrier management tool provides support with materials planning and with the delivery of products in the required containers. A barcode is printed on the corresponding goods tags (which unfortunately are specific to each customer more often than not) with the relevant production data, and the tags are placed on the relevant individual packing units.

Credit memo procedure – A-supplier

Now that everything has worked out perfectly, your customers don’t want you to send them an invoice. Instead, they send you a credit memo via EDI that you are required to check.

And if everything has worked out perfectly for a long time, you will acquire A-supplier status…
